The Pen Review is a literary journal publishing poetry, short fiction, and creative non-fiction.
Since its inaugural issue in 2015, the Review has offered a vital platform for literary voices, publishing a diverse array of poetry, short fiction, and creative non-fiction. With each edition, our journal seeks to capture memorable events, moments, and narratives that leave a lasting impression on readers.
Beginning 2025, the Review will be published twice annually with a limited number of copies available to purchase in major bookshops in Kigali and online.

Our mission is simple yet profound: to contribute to the promotion of a vibrant literary culture and nurture emerging and established talent alike. By providing a space for writers to share their work, we encourage the exploration of human experience through the written word. Whether you’re a reader seeking thought-provoking stories or a writer looking to showcase your craft, The Pen Review invites you to be part of our growing community of literary enthusiasts.
We believe that storytelling—through prose, poetry, or essays—has the power to inspire, challenge, and connect people. Every piece we publish reflects the richness of individual perspectives and the universality of shared experiences.
Join us in celebrating the beauty and power of literature.
